Mindful First Mondays with Michael Cohen
About This Class
Of the three jewels, or pillars, of Buddhism–meditation, the teachings, and spiritual community (sangha)–sangha may be most important. Maintaining a regular meditation practice can be challenging. Practicing as a group makes it easier…and more enjoyable.
The intention of this group is to provide a safe space where people can find comfort and connection in community; a place to share what’s on our hearts without fear of judgment or contradiction. Gathering on first Mondays, the hope is to set the table for a mindful month.
What You Can Expect
The class will consist of a guided meditation, a sharing circle, and a brief talk or reading followed by a discussion.
Donations support dana for Michael and the Frederick Meditation Center.
Teachers of donation-based classes are not paid a wage, but instead rely on donations for support. Teachers in turn offer a donation to the Frederick Mediation Center. For less than a meal out, you can receive valuable teachings that will last a lifetime!
Michael has practiced mindfulness meditation for the last 13 years, participating in retreats with Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Jonathan Foust, Bhante Gunaratana, and many other skilled teachers. Beginning in 2016, Michael’s taught various workshops and courses, including workshops on intention and introductory courses in mindfulness meditation. Michael has led the Discussion Group that meets after Tara Brach’s Wednesday night meditation class for the past five years, and currently manages 7 other facilitators. He has been a mentor through Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW) and for the Year of Living Mindfully (YLM) program led by Jonathan Foust. Michael graduated from the 2-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP) with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield in January 2021.
